Teens need a voice and a sense of individuality. Teens still need to know their caretakers are in their lives, but in a way that helps them learn to do things on their own without feeling alone.
Learning to tease out the needs of developing youth can be perplexing, as needs do change over time. The dynamic between parents and teens is further complicated by lived events and changes beyond your control.
When working with teens, meeting with parent(s) in collateral sessions is equally important. Depending on the need, collateral sessions happen about once a month.
